Welcome from the Department Head

TeikLim.jpgThe Mechanical Engineering Department is dedicated to high quality cooperative undergraduate instruction, and research-driven graduate education. The Department is comprised of 26 faculty members and 10 staff personnel. We currently offer ABET accredited bachelors degree as well as graduate degrees (M.Sc. and Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering (ME). In addition, we started an advanced program in ACCEND (ACCelerated ENgineering Degree) at the undergraduate level that allows our top students to pursue either the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) or Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering simultaneously with their undergraduate degree. We also offer two minors at the undergraduate level in nuclear engineering and manufacturing engineering. The current enrollment in our department is over 500 undergraduate and 200 graduate students, making us the largest department in the college.

Our first rate faculty are highly dedicated to teaching analytical, computational and experimental engineering techniques in their relevant areas of expertise ranging from nanotechnology to structural dynamics. Undergraduate students in our program complement their structured academic curriculum with on-the-job, practical experience through our mandatory co-op program. Our graduate students are trained in the state-of-the-art laboratories and courses, and almost every one of our graduate students pursue an in-depth thesis research.

The Mechanical Engineering Department is home to numerous internationally recognized research areas in structural dynamics, vibro-acoustics, gear dynamics, computational mechanics, nanotechnology, intelligent systems and structures, fuel cell systems, computational fluid dynamics, robotics, and many more. We also housed three research centers: NSF Industry/University Cooperative Research Center in Intelligent Maintenance Systems; PACE Center for Global Design and Manufacturing; and NIOSH Occupational Safety Engineering Center. As you can see, we are very excited about our undergraduate and graduate programs. Please contact us if we can be of further assistance.
