Nilesh Billade, student of Dr. Kumar Vemaganti, awarded first prize at SES 2006

Nilesh Billade, a graduate student of the CAE Research Laboratory, working under the supervision of Dr. Kumar Vemaganti and coadvised by Dr. Shawn Hunter of Biomedical Engineering, won first prize in the Student Abstract/Presentation Competition at the 43rd Annual Technical Meeting of the Society of Engineering Science.

Nilesh's presentation, titled, "Characterization and Modeling of Carbon Nanofiber Composite Biomaterials for Functional Tissue Engineering Applications," was co-authored with Dr. Kumar Vemaganti and Dr. Shawn Hunter.

Nilesh will receive a plaque and a check for $300 sponsored by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) as well as a $345 travel award.
