Graduate Student Position in laboratory studies in Cardiovascular Fluid Mechanics

The Bio –Fluid, –Heat, and –Mass Transfer Laboratory at the University of Cincinnati invites applicants to apply for a doctoral graduate student position in laboratory studies in cardiovascular fluid mechanics project funded by the American Heart Association (AHA).

The position will involve incorporating innovative diagnostic approaches to engineering and clinical knowledge based on fundamental fluid dynamic principles in conjunction with in vivo and in vitro (bench-top) experimental data, as well as analytical and numerical analyses.  The graduate student will have the opportunity to learn: 1) in vivo and in vitro pressure-flow measurement techniques; 2) anatomic assessment using IVUS system; 3) computational fluid mechanics and fluid structure interaction.

The lab is equipped with: 1) ComboMap systems for pressure-flow measurement; 2) Left Ventricular Pressure-Volume System for measuring maximum and minimum 1st order derivative of LV pressure, and rise and fall time constants for intraventricular pressure; 3) fluoroscopic angiography machine; 4)  intravascular ultrasound imaging system; 5) occluders of various sizes; 6) rapid exchange angioplasty balloons; 7) Doppler ultrasound flow meter; 8) Brookfield concentric cylindrical viscometer; 9) Data Acquisition systems; 10) Pulsatile blood pump; 11) A digital pressure scanner module; 12) A computational facility that includes 2 Linux-, 3 Unix- and 2 Windows- platform work-stations and 4 Windows platform PCs, all with requisite peripherals and software.
