BSME/MSNE ACCEND
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering ACCEND program
Admission to the MNE-ACCEND program have been suspended. Students currently in the program will be able to complete the program but no new students will be admitted.
The links in the navigation bar to the left will open the approved curricula sheet for the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering ACCEND program by year of graduation in pdf format.
MNE ACCEND students in the class of 2008 will need to apply to the Nuclear Engineering graduate program during their senior year. More information about this process will be posted as it becomes available.
MNE - ACCEND stands for Mechanical Nuclear Engineering ACCelerated ENgineering Degrees. The program allows students to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and an Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering in five years - while simultaneously receiving five quarters of professional experience.
How does the program work?
To be able to complete the MNE-ACCEND program in five calendar years, students must enter the program with advanced standing credit or take nuclear engineering undergradaute course work in a distance learning format while on co-op assignments to replace department and guided electives in the starndard BSME curriculum. MNE-ACCEND students will receive the BSME after the spring quarter of their fifth year. A student then registers for summer quarter classes as a full-time graduate student and completes the MSNE thesis project. After summer term, MNE-ACCEND students have accumulated enough graduate level credit hours from previous quarters to qualify for the master's degree in nuclear engineering. The links to the left provide typical curriculum sheets the the MNE ACCEND Program.
What are the benefits of the MNE-ACCEND program?
A unique college experience: Where else can you participate in a five year program and obtain both an undergraduate and master degree? Nowhere. Cutting down your time in school saves money and puts you in the job market quicker than other BS/MS engineering programs. In addition, your co-op experiences allow you to earn money while working in the field where you will gain the skills necessary for success in the industry.
Admission requirements for ACCEND
Admission into ACCEND programs is competitive and limited. The programs are not able to accept all students who apply for ACCEND.
The application process is the same as for the traditional programs; individuals complete the admissions forms found at www.admissions.uc.edu and submit them for review. The ACCEND academic advisors will review the admissions information and select the candidates who best fit the profile of successful ACCEND students. Factors that are considered include:
- SAT and / or ACT test scores (averages for 2006 were 1310 (Math and Verbal) and 29 respectively)
- High School class rank (average for 2006 was top 10%)
- High School course work (including Physics, Chemistry, Pre-Calculus and / or Calculus) and performance in those classes
- AP Courses and advanced standing and performance in those courses (average for 2006 was 20 hours of college level credit)
Applications are reviewed at the end of October, mid-December, and monthly January through March (or until enrollment limits are reached).
