Policies of the Mechanical Engineering Program Faculty

In general, it is the policy of the Mechanical Engineering Program Faculty that all courses are taken in the sequence called out by the official curriculum for the students expected graduation class. It is the policy of the Mechanical Engineering Program Faculty that all prerequisites be taken and passed before the student is permitted to enroll in the subsequent courses.

Exception: When, in the opinion of the Chairman of the Undergraduate Advising Committee and the student's Academic Advisor, it is in the students best academic interest, an irregular schedule may be approved and/or the prerequisite requirement may be modified. This modification does not include waiving the required course.

  1. Only General Education (BoK) electives and guided electives may be taken for pass / fail credit in conjunction with the College requirements for pass / fail credit.
  2. Department Electives taken from the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering i.e. courses with a MECH number are always approved. Course from other engineering programs can be used as Department Electives with adviser approval.  Only guided electives may be taken from other engineering programs or other colleges.
  3. To receive credit for Special Projects (MECH5099), the student must submit the Special Projects Approval Form before the course is taken. ONLY 3 CREDIT HOURS OF SPECIAL PROJECTS WILL COUNT TOWARD GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS!
