Shubham Sah, Professor Sam Huang's student, enters final round of DHL Discover Logistics competition, wins trip to Germany

The DHL Discover Logistics initiative was launched in April 2008 by Deutsche Post World Net, the world’s leading logistics services provider, under the patronage of German Foreign Minister Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The aim of this initiative was to create awareness about the growing logistics industry and recognize it as one of the primary driving forces of the global economy.

The game was open for current students and recent graduates and was played in three levels. The first level started with a pool of over 8,500 participants from 120 different countries. This along with the second level was played online and had the players manage and develop a small logistics company into a national champion. The top five hundred participants were then grouped into 100 teams of 5 players each and were invited to play the second level. Here the teams competed in three different areas of logistics services, namely forwarding, express, and supply chain services. Effective intercultural communication was definitely one of the key skills required for the success of the team. Finally, after a rigorous five months of “online gaming”, the top ten teams were invited to DPWN's headquarters in Germany for a final showdown.
