The Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Cincinnati (UC) and the School of Mechanical Engineering at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) has jointly established a new coop-based 2+3 BSME degree program.  In this program, top Chinese undergraduate students from SJTU, after spending two years of rigorous academic studies in Shanghai, China, will matriculate to the Mechanical Engineering program at UC to complete the remaining 3 years that integrates cooperative education along with academic studies.

The program is receiving strong endorsements from multinational companies that are based in both USA and China who will be hosting these students during their coop rotations.  “We are very pleased to be able to partner with one of the top ME schools in China.  This unique program will be a model for training the next generation global engineers,” said Professor Teik C. Lim who is the Head of UC Mechanical Engineering Department.

The first batch of SJTU students are expected to arrive at UC in the Autumn quarter of 2008.
